On The Corner, Kathryn points to an absurd statement by Walter Conkrite in an interview with Larry King. In the interview, Cronkite responds to a question about how the OBL tape might affect the election (I've bolded what KJL posted):
Wally has much too high an opinion of Karl Rove! I expect it would take Rove, at the very least, two weeks to pull something like that off.
"What we just heard. So now the question is basically right now, how will this affect the election? And I have a feeling that it could tilt the election a bit. In fact, I'm a little inclined to think that Karl Rove, the political manager at the White House, who is a very clever man, he probably set up bin Laden to this thing. The advantage to the Republican side is to get rid of, as a principal subject of the campaigns right now, get rid of the whole problem of the al Qaqaa explosive dump. Right now, that, the last couple of days, has, I think, upset the Republican campaign"As laughingly stupid as the highlighted comment is, look at the sentence after it. Does Wally actually think Karl Rove set this up with OBL "... to get rid of the whole problem of the Al Qaqaa explosive dump."? Al Qaqaa came out in the NYT last Monday? OBL's tape came out Friday.
Wally has much too high an opinion of Karl Rove! I expect it would take Rove, at the very least, two weeks to pull something like that off.
